It’s hard to believe this is our 7th year of owning a boat in Greece. Due to Covid-19 we were stuck at home in Sydney for two of those seasons, so really this is our 5th season sailing the summers.
During our first season (2018) ( LINK HERE ) we completed the purchase and registration of our Bavaria 42, MACSEA, and sailed mainly in the Cyclades.
In antiquity they were the centre of a Bronze Age culture, the Cycladic, noted for its white marble idols. The name Cyclades means “encircling islands,” and they are so named because they form a rough circle around the sacred island of Delos (Dílos), which was the legendary birthplace of Artemis and her brother Apollo. Virtually all of the islands have some archaeological interest. Windmills and cube-shaped whitewashed houses are characteristic features of the modern landscape.

Season 2 (2019) ( LINK HERE ) saw us venturing further afield and heading north to the northern most island groups, across the northern Aegean and the south through the most eastern part of Greece just a stone’s throw from Turkey.
Season 3 (2022) ( LINK HERE ) we were on our new (to us) Catamaran, Rukus. Unable to obtain a long stay visa for Greece we had to exit the EU and spend some time in Turkey. New adventures and places for us, and new culture.
Season 4 (2023) LINK HERE was off to a traumatic start with a serious accident (Robyn) requiring 6 weeks recuperation which was spent visiting Montenegro by aeroplane plus the UK. Back at Rukus we had a mid July launch and again headed across the Aegean to Turkey returning to Greece in September.
Season 5 (2024) ( LINK HERE) was off to a delayed start yet again. Owing to medical issues at home we did not arrive to Rukus until June 26 so enjoy reading about our current season, and sorry if there are some repeats from other years – we love returning to our favourite places!
